Living in Uruguay
Life, Uruguay

Terry from Sunny Florida -

I was in Uruguay as a member of the U.S. Embassy staff in the mid 60's. I remember it fondly. Friendly people, good food and wine, inexpensive.

I am now thinking of retiring there. How is it now? Is it worth considering the move?

Absolutely... though I think everyone here will tell you that!

At our Expat meeting yesterday we had N. Americans living in Mexico and Panama that are considering moving here.

Comment #2 Irv in Pocitos from Montevideo, Uruguay -

I first came here in the 80's... with my wife who was born here and emigrated to Canada in the late 60's... during the revolution. She was invited to leave by a few mounted thugs dressed in military attire.

Although she spent every winter here for the following 40 years, now as a resident, she finds the country has changed a lot--for the worst.

For those of us, like myself and the rest of the ex-pats, we dont have those glorious days to compare the present to. Taken out of context, it's a great place.

To someone like her (and possibly yourself), you may be disappointed.

That doesn't mean she wants to leave. She simply wonders where it went to and wishes it were back.

The people have NOT changed. And that's the best part of any country.
