| statistics Well Glen, you know I love statistics, but in this particular case I really don't believe one needs statistical data to justify taking sensible measures to avoid even ONE person getting hurt. This is not about unreasonably imposing more rules and regulations that restrict people's freedoms or impinge on the local culture. In my view it's all about safety and protecting lives.I was once celebrating New Year's Eve with friends in a high rise apartment in Pocitos when 12 midnight arrived and --stupidly-- we decided to go out on the balcony to see the fireworks. Within minutes a live firework landed right next to one of my friends. Lucklily, nothing happened. But it was scary. We disposed of it quickly and went back into the apartment. Someone could have easily gotten hurt. My friends said this happened all the time... I love fireworks myself. But I don't have to start my own personal show to enjoy them. I am totally content with going to an organized display. |
