| mom movingI want to know about teaching in Uruguay. How much is it to live in a ice area 3 or 4 bedrooms around about price. Also, my children are 2, 5, 7, and 10. How is the education? Do they have public education or not. |

Hi Trina, a nice area in Montevideo would be Pocitos/Punta Carretas.....a 4 bedroom apartment should be around USD 1000 a month......and about schools....your children would probably be better off at a private school, especially if they don't speak Spanish, but I'm sure there are expats in this forum with children that can give you better advice on that. As far as teaching goes...what kind of teaching are going for..ESL? |

Hi Trina, I would agree with Solegrl that within Montevideo Pocitos, Punta Carretas and Parque Rodo are nice places for a family to live. They are calm, quite safe, and very pretty. I disagree that you would find a 4 bedroom HOUSE in any of these areas for US$1000. You could find a 3 or 4 bedroom APARTMENT for that price...but you should also know that you are expected to pay quite a big security deposit here (often 5months upfront for a 1 year furnished rental). The link below might help you get an idea of prices and maybe even find and arrange a place before your arrival. As for teaching English - yes there are opportunities, especially for native speakers with experience. BUT, the wages are very low - definitely not enough to support a family with 4 young children living in Pocitos and expecting to attend a private school. Jobs are few and not well paid in Uruguay, most expats living here are doing online work or are retired. |

Yes, I agree with Elaine, I was thinking of an apartment when I mentioned the USD 1000 a month, I lived in Pocitos until last year, and it is mostly apartments there so I automatically thought of that :) Houses would be WAY more expensive! |
