Thank author of this post/commentI have a degree in child development and on in business. I also do a lot of bookkeeping and accounting work. I'm very knowledgeable and hardworking but what would I be able to do? and where can I start looking for a job at?

Unfortunately there are not plenty of jobs and paid is not great indeed. But for small wages there are some jobs..but the search may take some months at least.

The first thing to ask is: Do you speak fluent spanish? Because without this it will be different to work in something appart from Teaching English, at least for a local institution.

Vernita and Jaqualine use to publish aged news and very old questions from other blogs. This question about jobs in Uruguay, for example, is two years old. I cannot understand what are they doing in this forum.

The usual method of first entering the ROU is by means of a tourist visa. Most citizens of the Americas (inc the USA) and Europe can just come here and get a 90 day visa on arrival. Once you are here, you can apply for residency status but you will need to bring various documents with you that have been stamped by the Uru-consul in your home country.

When I first immigrated in 2005/6 there was no such thing as a work permit. I have no idea whether such a thing has been introduced since then. A non-resident foreigner working here had to pay tax and BPS contributions just like a local... the only difference was (s)he was not entitled to receive the usual state benefits on account of paying.
