Hi Lee, good question, I I find some stats I will point to them. If by skilled you mean professionals I will tell you some idea about what engineers and IT system engineers may do, I know this sector because I work on it. Also some other general idea I have from financial sector which I happen to know a bit.

Salaries depend on the sector, public or private and the size or kind of company, also some professions are more in demand than others. Graduates from some Universities, notably Universidad de la Republica will get better paid than others.

A telecommunications Engineer in Antel, in a technical , non managerial role should be around 40000 pesos per month.

I know a pre-sales engineer for a Telecom maker that makes 60000 per month

However some of them do just 32000 per month.

A junior programmer may do 20000, others 30000, senior ones may do 50000.

I would say managers should do from 60000 to 80000. People in banks will do, depending in roles from 18000 at the customer service desk to 100.000 for managers.

Medical doctors, many without high paying specializations will just do 35000, but some of them, notably surgeons and medical anesthesist and others will do over 100000, may be 150000 per moth.

Accountants do well, and generally will do from 35000 onwards...

I would say accountants should earn not less than this, some times much more, and some times will end up being managers.

Well I hope this helps, job is a scarce resource in Uruguay, market is small, companies are very secretive about remunerations some time.

Regards

Martin

For Luv Rago;

I've been told some call center salaries. The one I know in particular pays low (around 8, 000 p/u), but is more flexible regarding shifts, ie. p/t vs. f/t, special accommodations, etc. Most employers here are quite strict; full time means full time, they are often unwilling to make room for someone who can work, say 30 hrs.

As for Customer Service and Call Centers, I believe the standard pay is between 12, 000 p/u and 15, 000 p/u per month.

It's low considering many require you to be bilingual. Those jobs appear populated with students, foreigners and non-permanent residents. I think the employers take advantage of this.

In fact, the balance of power seems to be tipped toward the employer here in general. It feels like there are simply more people than jobs and every position has too many applicants.

I hope this helps.

Are the salaries listed above in Martin's posting pre-tax, or are those the salaries after taxes have been taken out? What is the income tax rate here? Thanks!

Hi Marina, salaries I mentioned are NET, that is after IRPF tax, BPS (Retirement) and FONASA (Health insurance) are discounted.

I hope this helps..

Hi,

I want to apply for a position as Communications Officer in Montevideo, but I need to specify my salary requirements. Does anyone know what is the average for this position and what is the cost of living there (I'm single)?

Thanks,

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 1790861691
