Young family to be just moved to Uruguay !

Thank author of this post/commentHello all, I think this is the right time for me to do an introduction, as we have just landed on the shores of Uruguay on Friday !

We are fairly recently married couple, myself Australian & my husband Olaf, German and we are also expecting a little Uruguayan baby in September this year!

We will be here for the long term we feel, having just spent nearly the last couple of years to finally persuade the company Olaf works for, to allow us to come down here and open an latin american office ! Reason being : I moved to Germany and it soon became apparent that I was there most of the time by myself while Olaf was off on far too many long work trips in south america! So now we are setting up here for good and look forward to a normal family life without lots of long business trips to interrupt us. And of all the countries in Latin America, we have chosen Uruguay for all the obvious reasons including safety and a relaxed quality of life that we hope to find here!

We are in the lucky situation that we have visited Uruguay a few times over the last couple year and already have gotten a bit of feel for the country already and also have an apartment and office space and several other things set up..

What would be really great now, would be to meet other expats living here, particularly other people in a similar situation to ourselves. We definitely plan on going to the next sunday meeting we are free to attend and look forward to finding all about other people experiences and of course most interesting topics for us are families, real estate (we want to buy as somewhere over the next year) and talking to all other vegetarians surviving down here !

Montevideo
Thank author of this post/comment"Welcome!"

Hello Olaf's Wife (forgot to tell us your name :) ). Welcome. You've made the right decision. Olaf would probably find that Montevideo doesn't have the best of airline connections of the region, but it would compensate that with a better quality of life for the rest of the family. Learn Spanish and try to integrate to social activities that are interesting to you. That would take you out of home and keep you active and connected to people while Olaf is traveling.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 1475883348
