A Family-Friendly Experience in Uruguay

I have been an avid traveler before but when I got married five years, that lucrative and expensive lifestyle was stopped. This time with more reason to celebrate life and my new found family, I would love to try this again but this time with my wife and my two kids.

I have been into Uruguay once but that experience isn't the most family friendly one. So I was wondering if you could refer me to a travel agency or website which offers family-friendly travel packages on Uruguay.

Allan,

Welcome to the board! I can't believe how many new readers we're now getting from Spain. Uruguay is a great place to be with family, and if I do say so myself, I don't think you'd have any difficulty restarting a lucrative and expensive lifestyle here.

This is a long shot, but living in Spain, did you ever meet Alan Turing? He liked to travel to your area from time to time, and although being with him could sometimes be a bit of a test of sorts, he was definitely a great guy.

I am curious what kind of experience you had that wasn't family friendly? Were you with your family?

You couldn't possibly be referring to the FAMOUS Alan Turing?!?!?

Alan Mathison Turing, OBE, FRS (pronounced /ˈtjʊəɹɪŋ/, TYOOR-ing; 23 June 1912 – 7 June 1954), was an English mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst, and computer scientist. He was influential in the development of computer science and providing a formalisation of the concept of the algorithm and computation with the Turing machine, playing a significant role in the creation of the modern computer.

I think I know what you mean...Though I don't think I could ever say Uruguay is not "family friendly" (Uruguayans in general adore kids and family is still an important unit in daily life here) but in terms of vacations this isn't Spain or France or Disney Land, you won't find resorts with kids-clubs and English-speaking babysitters on hand or any of that sort of thing. However it is a really beautiful country and the beaches all along the east coast are full of kids freely running around and playing without the risks and fears than many people worry about in more developed countries. An expat here runs a great travel agency called Pangea Travel, I'm sure he'd be happy to help you with your plans, his website link is below.

As for living a lucrative and expensive family lifestyle...no so sure about that one. Kids clothes, toys, supplies etc are very expensive here (in comparison to the US or Western Europe). As has been explained in many other posts very few finished goods are produced here in Uruguay, therefore clothes, electronics, toys, furniture etc can all seem pretty expensive as the import tax here is 60%. On the plus side fresh fruits and vegetables are readily available at good prices and kids here don't seem to have to same issue with obesity as in other developed countries (not yet at least, heart disease and hypertension is common here as they eat A LOT of red meat, and regularly!)

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 743633817
