Physical presence question

Thank author of this post/commentHi everyone,

If I get the permanent resident card, is there a physical presence in Uruguay requirement (i.e. minimum how many days per year) in order to keep the permanent residency? Or is there no such a requirement (like Malaysia's program) or is this a grey area (like Ecuador or Paraguay)?

Also, is the cedula ID card valid for 1 year or 3 years? Do we need to provide income proof docs again when we have to get it renewed?

Thanks a lot. Wishing you all enjoy your lives in Uruguay.

Mary

I don't know whether there are regs about how many days per year you have to be here.

"Also, is the cedula ID card valid for 1 year or 3 years? Do we need to provide income proof docs again when we have to get it renewed?"

They seem to be issued for 3 years. I'm told that I'll need some document from immigration before I renew mine next year but as far as I know, the monthly income nonsense ceases to apply once you have a cedula.

Hello

If you are a legal resident or in the process to be, to renewal you will need to show your certificate from the National Directorate of Migration in stating their legal resident status or residence in the process .-

I think the first one is for one years, after for 3 years..not sure about it.

When I got mine (2 years ago) I took my certificate of arrival (from immigration) to the local office of the directorate of civil identification who asked me details, took lots of fingerprints and gave me a 1 year provisional cedula. 3 weeks later I was summoned to repeat some of the procedures and was given my permanent 3 year cedula.

However, a year later my SO visited the same office in Nueva Helvecia with a rather smarter certificate of arrival (with a hologram no less :) and went through the same procedure with questions and fingerprints. When we returned to collect his cedula I was surprised to find that he was given his permanent 3 year jobbie without ever having had the temporary 1 year version.

I've long given up trying to spot the logic behind the actions of our funcionarios :-)

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 311692918
