Fine when extending your tourist visa

Can anyone help me out?

We are staying on a tourist visa, but we do not feel like extending it because we are in Rocha and do not like to travel to Maldonado or going to Chuy, leaving and entering again via Brazil, we did it once.

So if: we do not renew our visa, and when we are leaving Uru with a 6 weeks expired visa, will the fine be high? Does anyone has any idea?

Thanks!

"update"

Lee from Pocitos thank you for the link. Via the link I was able to trace the tel.number of the immigration office in Chuy and they told me it was possible to go to Brazil en re-enter again. I told them we did it before, but it was no problem at all.

So for people close to Chuy, it is worth the trip and you can buy some very cheap and good Brazil coffee as well (half the price of Uruguayan 'coffee') But that is another topic!

Yes indeed. To renew the 90 day tourist visa for free its just a matter of leaving the ROU and re-entering it.

Yesterday I had to go to Buenos Aires to visit the Irish fortress-in-the-sky (aka the Irish embassy) to surrender my Irish passport for renewal so I travelled on my ROU cedula. I was gratified to see that the immigration authorities on both sides of the river put me down as Uruguayan.

Resistance was futile... I have been assimilated :-)

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 1949768067
