Entering Uruguay with an expired passport!

Thank author of this post/commentI read in a blog post someone who wanted to know if they could actually come to Uruguay using an expired passport. I tried to comment on the blog post but it wouldn't let me. So here is my answer.

Obviously that is a question for a lawyer, not random people that read blogs.

If you researched entry requirements I think you'd have found that many countries require not only a valid passport (an expired passport will hardly be considered valid by anyone) but an expiration date at least 6 months AFTER your date of entry.

I don't think "arrested" would be the proper term to use, but rather denied entry, ie: sent back to where ever you came from. What every carrier (airline or boat company) brings you will probably have to pay a fine and bear the cost of sending you back.

For that reason, most airlines check your documentation BEFORE you board and will deny boarding if you don't have appropriate documentation, ie: a valid passport to enter where ever it is your going.

Of course I am not a lawyer and just some random idiot expressing my thoughts.

Why don't you just try it and then report back about what happens.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 1132235188
