antique car museum
antique car museumAre there any antique car museums in Montevideo?
There was a vehicle museum near the Carrsaco Polo Club, but I do not know if it's still open.
Is Automobile Club de Uruguay Museo on Colonia still open?
Comment #303/23/09 16:18Rural east Colonia departmento | IME you'll see more antique vehicles on country roads than you'll find in a museum. This very morning I was nearly run over by a 1930s Ford pick-up :-)Patrick. |
Nice one Patrick..that came out with a light touch..hahaha. Is it the case that no such antique car museum exists? That is sad especially when a huge collection of this can be seen at the roads. Someone should start one of these because I am quite sure it be huge attraction.
You know I think Patrick is right (as always!). Uruguay is teeming with old interesting cars...I think more due to lack of money to replace them than for the love of their antiquity! Around Montevideo you won't see as many (though if you're a truck enthusiast check out the 50 or 60 year old ancient rusting ford pick-ups that are used to carry all the "feria" market supplies!) To catch a glimpse of some great old school cars take a short trip out to Colonia del Sacramento. I think some of the classic cars out there are owned by people who really take of them and it shows. Take a look at a picture of cars in Colonia here:
Comment #608/31/09 07:33Rural east Colonia departmento | Ancient vehicles seem to appeal to poorer traders and to the rich. There is a noticable competition between some of my local big farmers as to who owns the best antique vehicle.Various sorts of banger racing are popular in Colonia and you could well say that its a departmento with a higher than usual number of petrol-heads :-) I have my eye on a 1967 International pick-up truck but so far the owner won't negotiate below 4500 U$S. |
how does your nissan compete out there?! haha!!
Comment #809/02/09 07:35Rural east Colonia departmento | For the Formula 2000 competitions we use what was once a 1972 Ford Escort. My "nearly-new" 11 year old Nissan is much too valuable to take part in banger racing :-) |
Antique cars are not for racing anymore, they should be kept and preserved, it will cost you lots of money in the future if you manage to have one in your garage so keep it nicely till a stupid antique collector knocks your door.. Like an old silver coin that costs a thousand bucks a friend of mine just recently sold to a collector. But if you want to have a peak on some of the antiques, car museums will never fail to provide that.
Have to agree with Yanne. I think that antique cars, as well as other antiques must be well kept because they would cost a lot in the future. It is like investing in gold.
I have to agree with that also. Those vintage cars indeed are great for keeps. Those cars might cost a lot in the future and you might got surprised on how much that would cost in the future. Just take it as a collector item and wait for a person or a collector to buy it from you. Good luck and wish your car be spotted by a collector.
I also happen to know this person who have an old car in his garage, he manages to still maintain the vintage look of the car, however, it is not working anymore. He just keeps it there because it is some sort of a collectors item for him. Later on, a collector came by at his garage and buys the car for a huge amount of money. Great deal for him.
Hey Fiona I like your story. My uncle also collects old stuffs or what they called 'antiques'. To tell you the truth I do not know why they love to collect those old things and treats it like their ultimate treasure ever. And if ever I saw my uncle I would surely tell him about that old car that costs lots of bucks. Have a nice everyone and be happy!
So Heidi, what happended to your uncle's antique collection? Well I do think that a vintage car would cost a lot, but are you sure that your uncle's car is one of the costly vintage cars? If so, then your uncle is possissing something that is real espensive. I want to hear more about that car Heidi so please post here some of the details. Thanks a lot and have a nice day.
Yeah, I would also want to hear more about that car which was described here by Heidi. I am also fascinated by cars, particularly those that are old and considered vintage and antiques. They look really great at museums and I guess I would consider myself as an a vintage car enthusiast. I have to agree that vintage cars are priced really high nowadays that is why collectors out there would surely pay large amount of money for a certain piece.
