Compare the 3 million people to 11, 700, 000 Cattle and Buffalo and 9, 524, 000 Sheep and Goats (2004).

Comment #2 Cinderella from Cinderella's Castle -

Wow! Are there just sheep and cows everywhere then? I guess that would make for a good beef industry. Is Uruguayan steak especially delicious?

Comment #3 Lee from Pocitos -

Yes! Actually, I think beef from Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay is much better than what you usually get in the USA.

Comment #4 Milly from Wisconsin -

Well if they are corn fed, I can imagine the beef is wonderful! I wonder if they have the same problems with Mad Cow disease as in Canada and now the US?

Comment #5 Santiago Torres from Montevideo, Uruguay -

No Mad Cow Disease in Uruguay. Our cows are naturally fed. We had a brief crisis of Foot and Mouth Disease in 2001, imported from Argentina, but it's already been eradicated through vaccination.

Comment #6 Lee from Pocitos -

I would add if you have never eaten beef in Argentina, Brazil and/or Uruguay... you don't know what the flavor of beef is!

I don't think you can compare what we eat in the USA with the beef here.

You pay more for poorer tasting less natural beef in the USA.

I've never seen sheep and cows in Montevideo... well.. actually someone did have a sheep in their yard.
