Thank author of this post/comment"That may well be my husband - but would I admit to it!!"

Yes, they both had a ball - as did those of us on the sidelines watching as they came to depend increasingly on the bar to hold them up!

Great editing by Brian, and he's a natural in front of the camera too. (My other half became more natural as the evening went on...)

Was the idea to get drunk in the beginning ? Surely if you are "tasting" beer or wine for that matter, you simply take a gulp or sip and then move on to the next.

This does sound like it was a lot of fun, but perhaps for the Guinness Book of Records instead ??

As long you are Home - Don't need to drive, you are a happy drunk and the wife doesn't get mad "it's all fun".

Think what a place the world would be if we cultured our minds instead of drinking them into oblivion! I would certainly be embarrassed by that video. It is absolutely beyond comprehension posting on Youtube.

With all super videos of Uruguay who would watch that?

Thank author of this post/comment""Does my husband have any shame...""

Thanks Jorge and Florence - I am glad we are not the only people with a sense of humour!

Linda - you probably will not beleive this, but Brent doesn't drink alot usually.(not now, University days were a different story...)

The idea behind it was to be a guest blog for a mate of Brian's who does a beer blog (there are blogs on everything these days - right?!), and tasting the beers of Uruguay would obviously be a novelty for someone from the States. I guess you don't have to be a rocket scientist to realise that drinking small amounts out of lots of bottles of beer will - yes - produce intoxication. But I don't see I crime in that, when it is not a regular occurrence and no-one is driving after the fact.

I am starting to wonder if my sense of humour is as warped as my husband's, though, since I did find it amusing to watch the video - and so did my elderly parent's in law in NZ!

It is in no way intended to show typical life in Uruguay ;-) But those of us that have lived here long enough will know that, right? Otherwise, it would have been a mate tasting blog...

Thank author of this post/comment"One final thought..."

Sorry, I just realised I should have pointed out that the drinking took place over several hours, and copious quantities of food were consumed as well - you can see the asado in the background.

I hope I don't lose my sense of humour as I age - that would have to be one of the most depressing things that could happen to me... Different strokes for different folks, I certainly understand that, though. Each to their own, I guess ;-) Would hate to try and impose our fun-loving life-style on anyone else.

We are really enjoying our life in Uruguay, now that we are settled here, so many lovely people we have met, and great friends we have made. I wish I had known, when I was young, that reaching 40 would be so much fun!

Thank author of this post/comment"Uh oh!"

I hate to remove messages that are related to the forum and have had some thought put into them... but one of the requirements for the advertisers here is that the content remain family friendly.

And, that means, sometimes, even things that are pretty openly talked about on TV won't fly here.

The video is a nice display of some expats having fun... no need for it to turn into a big debate, though that is another form of expat fun!

Maybe Brent can engage us some more without mentioning activities we all know will cause blindness!

"from NZ"

Dear Friends.

My sincerest apologies to those bespectacled, or who have become somewhat short-sighted in their perspective of life. The Uruguay Beer Blog was simply two mates having fun with their families and friends. It was conducted in a safe environment, where children could play, women were treated as equals and with respect, and one could have a few beers in conviviality.

It was not intended as a definitive guide to all the beers in Uruguay. More as a satirical parody that poked fun at ourselves in a non-threatening way whilst enjoying a few beers together. Are there truly any better times in life than that? Remember humility and remember laughter? We did have a great time. Sorry if you didn’t whilst watching it.

For those of you who have engendered a jaundiced myopic view of life, I commend the beer Maestra as perhaps being more in keeping with your palate, and a way to keep the rhythm beating in your life.

I prefer the Patricia.

Cheers

Brent

I really don't like any of the Uruguayan beers I've tried... they are just too sweet for my taste.

Give me Tannat or give me water :-)

Patrick - I too hate sweet beer. So tell me, is Scotch available in Uruguay?

Thank author of this post/comment"Scotch whisky"

Thanks to various historical accidents, Scotch is by far the most popular spirit available in the ROU.

Local whiskies are made here but in my view they aren't the most delicious of beverages.

The ROU also produces excellent brandy (officially known as Cognac by special permission of the French who we fed on credit during the end of WW II, ) some of the grappa is excellent too and the local rum is passable.
