Maps and where to get them.

I have read on this site, several times, people asking where they can get good maps of the city or the departments or the country in general.

There's a shop called:

«Tec asociados ingeniería cartográfica»

Soriano 900 esq. Convención.(el Centro, two blocks south of 18 de Julio)

Tel (5982) 902 5879

mapastec@adinet.com.uy

I was there today, the 10 of Nov. 2010, and bought a map of Montevideo for 100 pesos. It has a detailed city map on one side, the other side is the whole of the department of Montevideo. They really seem to have maps of most everything and in different formats.

They also give free post card size maps, aerial or satelite views of differnt parts of the country and totally blank on the reverse side.

ANCAP Gas Stations also have a nice map package.. when I bought it around 100 pesos (but that was years ago).

Tourism Office in Montevideo. This used to be in a small glass building on the sidewalk in front of the City Hall (18 de Julio y Ejido) but that glass building is no longer there. Anyone know where they moved? If you can find them, they had a great selection of guide books (in Spanish), maps, and other travel information about all parts of the country and all for FREE.

Tourism Office in other cities... you'll get maps and other great information.

I also recall a guide book seems to appear in the grocery stores about this time of year.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 297570195
