| First timer! I am planning a trip around the world since I have been working my whole life and I realized time really flies. URUGUAY is one of the choices and I'm gathering a lot of info so I know what I'm doing and where I'm going. However, I came across some questions about this place and I wondered if any one can give me some answers. Is there any art places I can visit? What would be the coolest place to stay and spend some time? Plus I would love to know the activity that people usually do there. And what would be the town where I would learn about their lives.??? Anyone? thanks in advance... |

Rather like Thailand, the ROU has just one big city... Montevideo where about half the population lives. During our summer, Punta del Este is where the rich and famous of South America are to be found.I'm a rural lifeform so can't really comment on the details. In Thailand I used to live at Phu Kradung (Chungwat Loei) so didn't have much to do with Bangkok and here I live near Colonia Valdense so don't spend much time in Montevideo :-). |
| ""art places" to visit"
Most of the activity in Uruguay happens where the majority of its residents live, in or around Montevideo. MVD is chock-full of museums, institutes of art and is the home of many active artists. Twice a year (including this Saturday and Sunday, September 25 and 26) all museums, major government buidings, ministries and state-affiliated or subsidized institutions open their doors to the public on Saturday and Sunday, without cost. So, this would be a great time to get an overview of what´s available for later, more leisurely sampling. Having said that, I also must tell you that Carola Garcia and I have just opened Feligreta, a bilingual gallery, artspace and tea room, at Avenida Brasil 2894 (corner of Ellauri) in Pocitos. Drop by, have a coffe or tea. We can help point yuou at art activities of all kinds here in MVD. Expert Page: Enjoy life a bit at Feligreta |
