| Answers: How far is Buenos Aires from Montevideo, Uruguay and Iguazu Falls? I'm planning a trip for this winter and I will be staying in Buenos Aires but I want to explore more of the country...so if anyone can please give me some answers, I'll greatly appreciate it! Also...where are the nice beaches near Buenos Aires? And cheap and safe places to stay? |
| "Buses & Ferries are cheaper and on the ground"
Hi Vernita, The replies to your request shown in the link you posted pretty much tell it like it is. A couple of added points: For Beaches 95% of Argentinians prefer to go across the river to Uruguay, because here you find some of the best beaches in the world. The most expensive beaches are in or near Punta del Este. The least expensive are either in the far East toward the Brazilian border in the Departamento of Rocha, or in the Costa de Oro area closer to Montevideo. The further East you go the more like Ocean it gets, and the further West you go (toward Colonia) the beaches are more like those of a River. The River beaches have brownish water but are much warmer to swim in, while the Oceanic beaches have green water but are a bit chilly to quite cold depending on seasonal conditions. For lower cost and the ability to see more from a ground level I recommend going to Uruguay or Patagonia, or the Argentine Wine country in Mendoza by Bus & in the case of Uruguay Bus & Ferry. Car rentals are also fairly reasonable, $35 to $60 per day. There are lots of Tours you can book. Be careful of Hotels that are too low cost in Buenos Aires, as they might be in rather dodgey neighborhoods. In the country side or small towns the hotels aren't that expensive, but in high end resorts they can be through the roof. Since the distance between Buenos Aires and Iguazu is so great, over 1200 miles, the bus takes 17 hours or more each way. So, likely to make that jump by plane is wise, unless you've a lot of time on your hands. Enjoy your trip, but remember if you fall in love with the place, you may never want to go back.>) |

Hey there, I took a coach from Montevideo to Iguazu a few years back and took about a day. it crosses into Argentina at Salto before going up through Missiones. Seeing the north of Argentina is a beautiful thing and I would recommend it. That said, The plane is alot quicker and allows you to spend more time at the falls. An amazing place for sure |
| "Buenos Aires"
airport navigation aid at Ezeiza to airport navigation aid at Carrasco is 121 nautical miles or 224 kilometers, slightly less from the Buquebus terminal in Buenos Aires to the Montevideo port. Times: 3 hours by fast hydrofoil ferry, add about one to one and a half hours more to the trip for the fast ferry to Colonia bus to MVD service, six to seven hours total if you take the slow boat during the day, 45 minutes less for the pre-dawn night haul. Now until the end of November flying from Bs As to Montevideo is possible but will take longer than the fast ferry service because the normal airport in Argentina (riverfront Aeroparque Jorge Newbery) is closed for runway resurfacing.
