| Urugyay vs Ecuador Interested in Uruguay and Ecuador. Can anyone give me a comparison between living in Uruguay and living in Ecuador? |
| "Specific Questions"
I think specific questions are generally best. However, in general I think such comparisons are dangerous. Everyone has different needs, desires and perspectives. You can find long commentaries about what is great and what sucks about both countries online. However, until you spend a length of time in each you'll have no idea what fits in well with your lifestyle. The same can be said for different regions within each country. Rudy From Ohio, I think Glen's advice is sound. I spent a great deal of time reading about how first world Panama was, sat in a 4 day conference hearing about all the positive things about Panama. Everything seemed ideal until I spent 4 days touring Panama City. I discovered that the "little Miami" of Central America was more Haileah than Coral Gables, with the addition of armed personnel everywhere. I only live 6 hrs from Haileah, so I could do that without all the fuss of expatriating. I am exploring Ecuador and Uruguay this coming Feb. Cotacachi and Cuenca in Ecuador then Monteviedo and Punta area in Uruguay. I will provide a link to my blog, which I am using as a diary of my steps to becoming an expat. South of Zero is an excellent website to check out about people blogging about their lives in Ecuador. I haven't found many expats in Uruguay blogging about their experience. There are some helpful sites that are publications, usually by those in real estate. As Glen said, we all have separate realities so it is best to make the comparisons yourself. |

One thing to keep in mind with Punta del Este is that the high season is very short and very crowded. The low season it could probably be call a ghost town... and in the winter may be VERY COLD (as many places aren't constructed for year around occupation, ie: no heat and less than no weatherization).Spending a few weeks or a month in a place may start to give you an idea that you don't like it, but I think it takes long to decide if a place is really right for you. Here is a link to some Uruguay Expat Blogs... not much updated recently. If any are missing send me a private message with the link. Expert Page: Quick Tips for Getting Settled in Uruguay |
| I am planning to move to another country and I am choosing between Uruguay and Ecuador. I was a bit confused who to follow because each and every one of them has their own opinion for giving their idea and experience about the two countries. I just decided to take a vacation for both countries so I will actually see and determine which country suits my needs and lifestyle. |
| If you are to choose, where would you want to retire? Would you choose to go for Uruguay or Ecuador? At the moment I am a bit confused on whether to choose Ecuador or Uruguay. I know how lovely this two countries are but then again I have to choose one. If it is ok with you guys, would you mind helping me figuring out where to retire? Good day. |
