I personally think most of these "guides" are actually sugarcoated CIA world factbook stats rehashed so as to sell products - whether that product be investments, real estate, relocation assistance blah blah blah. I know when moving country you want to know as much as possible in advance, even reading easily obtained information (like geographical info for example) in print form seems to put our minds at ease, it makes it seem more definite, more reliable, but thats not really the case. A friend of mine has EVERY guide written about Uruguay and I found myself flipping through them the other day - they're all the same! Most of it with idealistic descriptions, written from only one perspective and often with outdated information (Uruguay is developing all the time, things are changing, information needs to be online to update-able). For this reason me and Glen started Total Uruguay's FREE online e-book. It aims to offer the information new arrivals and potential expats are looking for, but with some HONESTY. We hope to offer real opinions, from real people who are living here and have gone through it. Its always expanding (it is potentially never ending as there are so many subjects to be discussed) but the most important details are already there - the residency process, obtaining citizenship, finding accommodation, the rental process, the pros and cons of living here, what things you should bring with you etc - its all there.
