Sunday Afternoon in Pocitos, Montevideo, Uruguay Talk for and about Expats. Living in this Uruguay? Let others know about it. Want to live here? Ask questions! Expat, UruguaySunday in Montevideo from Uruguay -
Follow the link for complete information and instructions... but don't hesitate to stop by.Last Sunday, Oct 29th I think the rainy weather scared a few people away, but we still had a great crowd. 3 who live in Uruguay full time 1 who is bouncing around South America having the the time of his life (who even invited a couple on an Airplane fight) 2 who were invited on their flight and are seriously considering setting up home base in Montevideo. We had a great discussion about the big, major, significant problems with life in Montevideo. We all seemed stumped. Please join us whether you are living here, thinking about living here, passing through or a tourist. Trackbacks

Comment #1 Sunday in Montevideo from Uruguay -
Sunday Nov 5th was a great get together. It was a little cool so we met inside. We had 7 people all but one living here and the odd man out will be living here soon.We talked a lot about the benefits of Uruguay over Panama and Costa Rica.

The weather was nearly unbeatable this Sunday, Nov 12. Unfortunately, Old Maz was completely full outside so we were inside again.A good crowd of 9 people. Everyone living or planning to live in Uruguay. Two were from Canada, so don't let the "Americans" in Montevideo scare you aware. We all get personalized checks so its a breeze when it's time to pay.

Don't forget we got to see David cry... he ordered a spicey pizza... and to his surprise they made it SPICEY!
Comment #4 Sunday in Montevideo from Uruguay -
Sunday Nov 19th we had a whopping dozen people... I won't say what went on, as you have to attend to find out!
Comment #5 Sunday in Montevideo from Uruguay -
Yesterday, Sunday Nov 26th, we has a little smaller but cozy crowd. I think the cooler and windy weather scared everyone away.
Comment #6 Sunday in Montevideo from Uruguay -
I think we broke 20 people Dec 3rd (but I really can't count that high).

Apparently the weekly group gathering at Old Maz has moved to somewhere else in Pocitos closer to the river. Anyone have any details on the new place?
Comment #10 Sunday in Montevideo from Uruguay -
Apparently the Uruguayliving.com contingent decided to meet at a different place. So the March 3rd meeting at Old Maz was a bit smaller and cozier than some previous weeks. The meeting setup on this site was designed to be simple, that is always the same place, and always someone there.

Thanks for clarifying! A bunch of us have been wondering what was going on with the Sunday lunch.
Comment #12 Lee from Pocitos -
Before long it will be too cold to eat outside, but enjoyed the cool breeze and sun today. Here's a nice little pizza... no cheese, onions, olives, red peppers and an extra treat... cayenne peppers for a little spice.

A couple of Canucks stopped by today around 13:20 but didn't see the group... Of course, it has been raining for a few days and it was cool.. and only one brave soul was sitting outside.. probably a smoker... But we had a nice lunch anyway...

Last Sunday (Sept. 23) I went with my friend David Briggs (a visitor from Athens, Georgia, USA) to the gathering at the Old Maz Deli. I had a great time, really. So I'm thinking of repeating the experience with certain regularity. Thanks a lot for welcoming me. Santiago

We are expats via Africa, Brazil and now living in Haiti.. Time to really retire.. Like Uruguay..trying to contact David James at the "Sugar Loaf Ocean Club and Spa". Could you please send me his e mail.. Plan on visiting soon... Nice to see there is a group like yourselves. Will definitely contact you.. Stanley and Nicole..
Comment #21 Wilbur Corncob from Punta del Este -
I'm now familiar with the "Sugar Loaf Ocean Club and Spa"... but a google search indicates it some condo development near Piraopolis and Punta del Este... Seems to be pushed by International Living without any real contact info... I'd come down and start looking at properties and ignore whatever is listed on the internet. My advice: Find a trusted local realtor, read the newspaper, look at the for sale signs on properties... I think you'll find a better selection and prices than the internet sites... last time I checked the local newspaper had 750 or so apartments (condos) listed for sale in just Pocitos.

Hi evryone, I am looking for some real insight into Uruguay from an expats viewpoint. Essentially researching background to base in S America. Brazil has been high on the list but Uruguay seems interesting. One of the basic anomolies which I cant seem to find a logical explanation off is the price off properties, they seem to be high when compared to brazil and the seeming reasonable cost of living there. maybe I haven't got the real scoop on this. I am aware of so called 2 pricing structures in countries. whether it be shall we say realtors taking advantage of ignorant gringos or opportunistic ex time share saleman looking for new scams ! I would appreciate any e mail 'intelligence' with you guys and gals who are in the know and have the real scuttlebutt or nitty gritty about what ticks down there. thanks and regards to all Chris ( presently in US )

Hello all, I just read Chris's post, and I am eager to hear any comments about it as well! But I am opposite, focusing on Uruguay, but Brazil is on the upper portion of the list too.... Thanks, Dominic

Hi, all, I have a thatched cottage on the beach, in El Pinar, and need to rent it out while I go back to the North for a year or 2.Any interest? It comes with a sweet dog and 3 outdoor/indoor cats that are very independent and all neutered.
