| Recommendations for Nanny? We are a family of 3, just moved to Montevideo to work and live for 2-3 years. We love it so far, and have fortunately found an apartment and everything we need very fast. Now, we are trying to look for a nanny that we can have at our house once or twice a week, but it is of course really difficult since we donīt know anyone well enough and need someone that can help us with a trustworthy recommendation. Our daughter is only 7 months old. Also, we would like to get in touch with other families with children of the same age.Look forward to hearing any advice! |
| "Another family with young children"
Hi Brita, and welcome to Uruguay! My husband and I, and our two young sons (nearly 2 and nearly 5) moved to Carrasco in September 09 from NZ. We are also intending on being here for 2-3 years with his work. It would be nice to catch up with you. I will send you a private message also, but wanted to reply here as well. I have put a post on previously if you want to know more of our background, either under Introductions or life, can't remember now... I am coming across a few expats with young families, and increasingly thinking there could just be enough demand to organise some family orientated get-togethers, as the venue for the Sunday expats meetings, although lovely, is quite small and not ideal for families (they do not have any highchairs, so take your buggy/pushchair if you go along). A lovely place though, and I would recommend making the effort to get along even once. Anyone else with young families out there who would be interested in meeting up, contact me directly if you like and I will work on getting something organised... Any suggestions for venues or otherwise from interested families would be appreciated too! I doubt it would be weekly, maybe fortnightly? |
| "Family Expat Meeting"
A gathering for families would be a great idea! There are plenty of families with young kids here in Montevideo. I don't think a similar weekly set up would work as families have different schedules and things happening, but its a great idea to be in contact with each other and offer support. There is a weekly "ladies lunch" on Friday afternoons and many members are young mothers who organize play dates and outings etc. Feel free to send me a private message and I can try put people in contact with each other. |
| "Meetups for families"
That is a great idea! We tried to go to the lunch on Sunday, it was great but I agree it was a bit crowded, and loud, for her. We would definitely be up for a family gathering somewhere more convenient, why not outside somewhere? |
| "Will try and set something up"
Thanks to Elaine, and my own efforts, we have managed to find and meet several ex-pats with young families here, and we are all of the opinion that we would like to continue getting together with our new friends. How I see things developing with open family get-togethers, is that those of us that have already met each-other will arrange to meet somewhere public, hopefully sometime in the next couple or three weeks at least, and then I will put a notice on this forum and wherever else I can locate, to spread the news. Most likely it will be in a park somewhere. So if this is of interest to you, keep your eyes and ears open, and even better, drop me a private message so I know you are keen, and then I can let you know directly when the details are confirmed, so you don't miss out. |
