Freelancing from Uruguay

Thank author of this post/commentHello. I have read part of this forum, so I know that the 90-day stamp when you arrive in Uruguay doesn't allow you to work. Does that mean domestic-sourced work? Could I go to Uruguay and work as a freelance for companies in the US and the UK, and earn money that way, taking advantage of the zero income tax on worldwide income? Or would I actually need a residence permit to be allowed to earn income from worldwide sources? Is this questioni daft? Could I just go to Uruguay and visit Argentina once a quarter and thus never bother to get a residence permit? Does buying a flat require you to get along term residence permit in advance of buying property? Thank you for any pointers! I am British by the way.

I was doing this for a while in 2003 and had no problem. Renewing the visa was easier than leaving the country. Eventually it go to the point where at the airport they would give me friendly jabs about how i should convert my visa to a residency one. We even started the process of doing the paperwork, but decided to move to the US for a while instead. (long story)

I know a number of uruguayans who work freelance for clients in the US and Europe. Under the tax law they aren't taxed for that income, so it's a pretty good deal. I did read recently that they have just started on two new office towers which will be 'free trade zones' but my understanding is that for tech style work, it's all exempted....

Thank author of this post/commentWhat are the prospects of those without money in the bank to buy a property... ie those who want a little help from the bank. What are the prospect?

I don't want a cop out answer like there is "a lot of paperwork" or something silly like that.

What paperwork? What requirements? There are lots of ads from all the banks for mortgages, but what is the nitty gritty of it all?
