| Foreign Newspapers Hello everyone, Do you know if some foreign newspapers (French, German, British) are available somewhere in Montevideo? I don't mind if they are outdated but I love to read a ''real'' newspaper sometime. By the way, I am new to this forum and I am very happy that I found this site with a lot of information. Currently, I am living in Toronto however I am moving to Rocha mid-February for a month or 2. My brother-in law is living there. Then, I will move to Montevideo for learning Spanish and for a job. I need to open a new chapter in my life (I hate routine) and Uruguay is my destination. Fortunately, my common-law is from Montevideo and we have family. When I am in Montevideo, I will join you at your brunch or lunch! I am very optimist and I have a lot of motivation to stay in Uruguay. JF |
| "Best foreign newspapers here are, IMO,"
all virtual. If you have to have the smell of ink and the feel of woodpulp I´d suggest that you buy either El Pais on Sunday or the Sunday LaNación from Buenos Aires, widely available Monday. For the rest just google country and city names followed by newspapers. Nearly anything you´d want to read is available on line.Expert Page: Enjoy life a bit at Feligreta |

As I recommended before get an Amazon Kindle for your reading desires. Purchase the Wifi version and you'll be able to easily get an unlimited supply of English reading material. Some periodicals maybe available on it too.Because of the side and battery (lasts for about a month with wifi turned off, which you only need for a free minutes to do downloads) its great for traveling. The fact is that printed matter is on the way out and expensive to ship, it's never too soon to get used to the virtual world. Expert Page: Quick Tips for Getting Settled in Uruguay |
| "not all on-line newspapers are free"
The el País newspaper of Montevideo is free on-line. Which is not the case everywhere. |
| It's always exciting to start a new chapter in one's life. You're full of hope and you are motivated, even inspired to give it your best and do it right this time, aren't you? I'm sure you won't have problem finding all those foreign newspapers if you go to Montevideo but maybe you need to subscribe to them because they may not be available in regular news stands. Good luck on your new chapter! |

I've seen various foreign papers for sale in Buenos Aires but not here. |

It's my guess, depending on which languages you read, that you could get papers from, say, l'Alliance Française, or some other such organisation ... The Canadian embassy is right on the Plaza Independencia, but I wouldn't count on them giving out a free Globe & Mail or La Presse. |
