| Expat Organic Farmers It has come to my attention that many expats have the idea of moving to Uruguay and starting a small organic farm. It seems to be one of the common expat dreams.I'd like to hear from some expats that have moved to Uruguay and now have an organic farm that is producing produce. I would be extremely interested in hearing how difficult the process was and your recommendations for others. A very good day to you all. |

I have a small farm (arable and eucalypti.) I've done several chem-free experiments but now I use chemicals on most crops. The marching ants are voracious and my initial attempts to grow 1000 eucalyptus cuttings without using anti-ant granules resulted in 50% losses. I also grow soya and the chem-free patch I tried disappeared under the weeds and wasn't harvestable. Winter wheat has a tendency to become infected with assorted poisonous fungi if left untreated with fungicides. The only chem-free crop I grow is sorghum which is capable of fighting off the weeds and is resistant to most fungi. The ants don't eat it and seem to prefer young trees (especially fruit) but the parrots love the grain. :-) |

Isn't there a large community of expat organic farmers that have a lot of projecting happening in Atlantida? Can someone give us a status report on that? |
