Can you direct me to any expat groups or expat web sites for Uruguay? How many Americans are living in Uruguay?

Hello,We have a new forum website for Americans retiring abroad, including early retirees still doing some kind of work. We are interested in hearing more information about Uruguay. There isn't yet a Uruguay expat forum on the site, but would be glad to add it if there is sufficient interest.

Does anyone go to those Sunday gatherings at that Old Maz place in Pocitos?

We plan to retire soon in Uruguay. We purchased real estate to vacation at for ourselves and to rent out until we move there permanently. We are looking for expats there in the area of Punta Del Este. We can help answer some questions about our experience there for anyone who wants to buy property. We want to meet expats who live there.

Okay I see a lot of interest in retiring to Uruguay. Do you people actually go down there for holidays first to scope out the place to see if it has the qualities that you are looking for before deciding this is the place for you?Or do you just take the advice from friends and people on this site that say it's a great place to retire. I have seen a few things that keenly interest me but I don't know which way to turn.
Should I get information form the Tourist Bureau down there an plan a vacation or can I plan my moves based on the information I receive from them.
Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

We just showed up one day about two years ago and decided to stay. Many people make multiple trips in the process of deciding and/or purchasing a property. We stayed in a hotel for a few days while we quickly found a small apartment for 3 months and went from there. Many are purchasing a home and moving once that transaction is complete.
