Bus Tickets to Punta del Este

Can anyone tell me how to go about getting bus transportation from Montevideo to Punta del Este. Will the hotel desk help on that or should I go through a travel agency. And if anyone knows the fare or a ballpark could you give me an idea. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think the fare was 134 pesos each way or so when I went in January. That's a bit under US$6.

You can go to the bus terminal and buy the tickets moments before you leave... or have someone from the hotel call them and reserve the tickets.

You can buy your return when you go or at the station in Punta del Este when you are ready to come home. You can also buy open returns. Just make sure if you have the return tickets the driver in Montevideo doesn't tear the stub off the return tickets by accident!

There are several bus companies that do that route and there are direct buses with few stops and others that make more stops.

The Montevideo bus terminal is in the Tres Cruses Mall (first floor is bus terminal, second floor is mall). Here is a link and you can see the schedules...
