The last one was 4 years ago. The local reaction to the ROU's defeat by penalty shoot-out at the hands of Australia was several days of mourning here :-) Today's reaction seems to involve a disappearance of everybody to watch the confrontation with France. Not a single vehicle has passed my house this afternoon. Its half time now and the score is still 0 - 0 at the moment. |

I watched the game on TV and I wasn't too impressed with either team. I think neither of the teams took too many risks and therefore, the game was rather boring. Interestingly, the American comentators thought the Uruguayan defense was "brilliant". They fully expected France to win and seemed surprised at how well the Uruguayan team prevented this from happening. They stressed that everytime France attempted to score there was a "blue wall" (referring to the color of the Uruguayan team's shirts) that prevented them moving forward. They also pointed out that the Uruguayans were "in possession" of the ball slightly longer than the French. So in the end, they thougth Uruguay won by not losing. I read the Uruguayan comentators' reaction and they seemed slightly disappointed with Uruguay's performance. But how I wonder what most Uruguayans thought of the game and the outcome. |
