Feliz Dia de San Patricio

Thank author of this post/commentJorge and the ex Miss Kavanaugh want to wish those Irish folks in Uruguay a very happy Saint Patrick day.

We will celebrate at Liam Fitzpatrick's Iris Pub.

The Party should be good, they have been practicing for a year, the 17 of each Month.

Please let us know how and where they celebrate in Uruguay.

I'm sorry to say that none of my Uruguayo neighbours have heard of St Patrick but they don't seem to mind sharing a glass or two to celebrate his day :-)

For more than 1000 years it was considered bad form to name a child Patrick as no normal mortal could live up to the great man's reputation. Names based on Patrick were used instead... a popular form was Gilpatrick meaning the servant of Patrick.

I have a bottle of 15 year old Jameson ready to toast the memory of the great man on the 17th :-)

Sería alguien tan amable como para enviarme fotos de la celebración del día de San Patricio en Uruguay. Si es posible que el fondo de la foto tenga una escena autenticamente uruguaya.

Soy bibliotecario. Tengo una presentación del día de San Patricio celebrado a través del mundo. La biblioteca se ubica en un barrio de San Antonio, Texas, EEUU, donde un gran porcentaje de la gente habla español.

Unfortunately my 2nd St. Patrick's Day as a resident in Uruguay was spent traveling so I didn't bear witness to the 2010 party. However in 2009 I was delighted to see a very large (and sufficiently boisterous) crowd fill Bartolome Mitre street where the Shannon Irish Pub is located, all wearing green and smiles :) They did a great job! Unfortunately across the rest of the country it seems to go fairly unnoticed, but in Montevideo "El dia de San Patricio" is celebrated in style!
