bi-bilingual schools
| bi-bilingual schoolshello can anyone tell me about the choices bi-lingual primary schools in Colonia? |
| This looks like a very good school, I would definatelty take a look. |
| That link seems to be for a school in Netzahualcoyotl, Mexico. |
| what is a bi-lingual primary school? Never heard of it. |
| In Uruguay it would be an elementary school that taught in both English and Spanish. Though in Uruguay you might find more focus on English as the Spanish would be learned at home too. Investigate that point if you are going to put enrolling English speaking kids in hopes of getting their Spanish up to speed rapidly. |
| If I were you I would check if the school is accredited internationally. try checking it if its included on parents review. |
| "bilingual schools"
My Wife and I planning to move to Uruguay in 2011-2812. We have to girls age 11 and 10. Other than the incredibly expensive American private school in montevideo we have found no other choices. Can anybody help with this topic? Thank you. |
| "Schools n such"
There are many schools in Uruguay with dual concentrations. Some lean more to the British English. Not sure which lean toward N. American English, but my daughter(Uruguayan) says - "Go to the main school in the community you will be living in and ask." You will have to go to a Private school, but they vary greatly in price, perhaps also in quality and services. The most renowned in Uruguay is Crandon. It is also the most expensive. ~ Peter |
| "Schools - A local´s point of view"
Peter, very good advise about how to find a school, although I don’t agree about Crandon’s concepts (and also it is not the most expensive. Sorry, the problem is not Crandon itself, the problem is that I have not open a school yet to cover all my expectations as a mother, ja, ja!What is also true is that Uruguay has a lot of variety in school prices and also some public ones are very good, better than LOTS of private ones. You need to pay attention and ask for interview in privates and publics. I saw that some expat comes looking for bilingual schools ¿?? You have to consider WHAT kids learn at English hours. Classes are plan for not native speakers. Much of the serious school follows the Cambridge program for not english native speaker. Is the same program for Uruguay that it is for France, or Japan! Do you want your kid learn a basic English vocabulary??? Sometimes a better option could be regular Spanish school (public or private) and some supporting classes with an English teacher to reinforced the concepts seen at school AND maintaining and improving their native language. It is a local point of view. Expert Page: Expat UY; Relocation and Expat Assitance |

You're right when you state the Crandon is not the most expensive one... now, as an American living in UY, I can assure that Crandon has a pretty good reputation in the country, taking into account it's affiliated to the International Association of Methodist-related schools, colleges & unis. The Crandon is more American than British, both Spanish and English are taught intesively and its IT department is outstanding (I came down here to assess them and their work was impressive) Whether you're looking an English-Spanish speaking school I would recommend the Uruguayan American School, the British Schools and the Crandon Institute. |
