Uruguay schools

Thank author of this post/commentUruguay has a high literacy rate at 98%. Children are required to complete 10 years of education and most boys go through 13 years.

Thank author of this post/commentYou missed the Unviersity which is free!

Some see that as a problem as many people have degrees which ends up making them over qualified for most available jobs.

Thank author of this post/commentSo most people take advantage of the educational opportunities available to them? That's good to hear. Does that apply to both men and women?

Thank author of this post/commentYou say that it makes them overqualified for jobs that are available. Does that mean that the people who are graduating universities with these degrees are leaving the country to find permanent employment elsewhere?

That seems to be such a shame and waste of talent that could be used to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Uruguay.

The education is great. Hopefully the one laptop per child program which is being implemented in Uruguay now will help the kids understand all the opportunities available to them... without even leaving home!

Isn't that too much for the children, imagine ten to thirteen years? Oh well, if it will make their future better why not right? It is like the education system in Korea and Japan where after the students graduate from college their somewhat mature enough to venture in the real world (maybe on their 25ish or 27ish). Uruguayans are really lucky and thankful to have a functional and subsidizing government.

It is great to hear that Uruguay values education that much. Education is one of the most important treasure a parent can give to his child. A kind of treasure which can never be taken, the gift and treasure called knowledge and wisdom (from education).

It is also good if the schools start promoting their country building it up on the minds of their students because it is really a shame to see those bright students leaving their homeland without even serving her.

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 1607971932
