World Heritage (listed 1995). Sunday 16, May 2010 Meet at the bus terminal of “Tres cruces” at 07:15 am at the COT counter. Departure time 07:45 Arrive in Colonia at approx. 10:30- Meet and greet at the bus terminal by Gustavo Guerrero , your English speaking tour conductor. 11:00 - Start the Tour of the old part of town (Barrio Histórico) in a van. Get off at Plaza Mayor, walking with history, explaining our colourful past and retracing the steps of Jose Artigas as he started his campaign for freedom , a few metres away from the main entrance (Puerta de la Ciudadela, City Gate) in 1811. The lighthouse can be visited but as it takes around 30-45 minutes (depending on availability of space at the top), we recommend this to leave it as an option during the free time after lunch. 01:00-01:30 -Walking tour and soon after, head for lunch (lunch included a la carte)at a restaurant a few blocks away from the Barrio Histórico. 03:00 - Finish lunch and allow yourself to walk along the yatch club area to see the Real de San Carlos from the distance (4 km) 04:00 - Back together to visit the nearby Bernardi Winery with the possibility of a free wine tasting. ( nice bottles of grappa and other exquisite wines can be purchased for around 5-10/bottle usd or more, depending on the visitors refined taste buds) Around 06:00, we should be back for some souvenier hunting.
