Two Fridays - One Trámite. What changed? ¿Yo qué sé?

Thank author of this post/comment, any: In sector 3, departing Adami (Melilla) Aeropuerto InternacionalBusiness is a bit misleading as a topic for this note, because the trámite I accomplished todaycould justaseasily have been personal. I propose a freshtopic: ¡Trámites!

Anyway, the story:

We have been desperate to get phone service, ADSL and, thus, WiFi in Feligreta. Last Friday I showed up at the Antel commercial office at 3:20 pm and got a number that was 76 behind the number being served at my arrival time. After 40 minutes the cola had advanced just 4 numbers. Another 15 minutes saw three more numbers posted on the light board. Since the office closes at 1700 hours, I baggged it for the week.

Today, too, I had a few hours available, but ended up at Antel, againat 3:20 pm. This time I had prepared: all papers in order, a brand-new cricigramas magazine to pass the time, and no coffee to drink before setting out (ask another old guy if you don´t see the import of the last item.) The number I drew was only 23 from the top. In 15 minutes (just 2.5 crucis done) I was seated at the desk of a CSR. Half an hour later I was out the door with a promise of phone line service Wednesday nextand a number to call for ADSL service soliciitation from the new working phone line. What changed one Friday to the next? Beats me witless. Any thoughts?

Hi, Ken! Today they were all at the Santander Bank, where I had to stand in line this afternoon! :-)

This coming Monday is a holiday (Día de la Raza, or Columbus Day); that probably affects what people decide is the most urgent thing to try to accomplish on the previous Friday. Today they decided it was more urgent to withdraw some cash than to order a new phone line. (Or they had to pay their rent before the 10th of the month, like me.)

You never can tell with Uru-queues.

I always take a picnic, a book and a folding chair when I have to interact with the powers that be. :-)

I hope that there aren't groans, that everyone has already seen this. I think Uruguay imported their idea of bureaucracy from ancient Rome :-)

Anyway as said in the previous post - if you can't beat it, then at least make it as enjoyable as possible. Is there some wine in the picnic box?

We sent our container in September and the consulate here was not well informed - thank goodness we had already contacted a despachante last year - even then it was lucky that my husband flew first with all the papers, so that I was able to run around getting more things legalised to send express before the container arrived.

Of course :-)

I've had some fun times and have met interesting and entertaining people while waiting in queues here. The most surreal was a Lebanese shop keeper from Cerro Chato... a very well informed gentleman who questioned me at length about the apparent dominance of Scottish people in UK politics :-)

For the nonspellers: Urugauy and Monte Video is Montevideo (monte-vid-day-o), real estate agents are "Inmobiliaria", and of course Uruguay is not spelled Uraguay. 2434482118
