| Internet and working online in Uruguay I've had many people quiz me about the internet here in Uruguay and I'm afraid I am not the techiest of people to be asking for specific details!I know it works, I know there is decent bandwidth that allows decent upload speed, I know its quite common to have regular access to internet (even if not at home...free wifi in many plazas, on some buses, in the bus station, in many cafes etc), even when I lived in a tiny town in Rocha there was access to good internet service (though the electricity supply wasn't so reliable in winter!). There seem to be quite an influx of expats who work online, so there must be quite a few people out there with opinions and lots of helpful information involving figures and numbers that mean nothing to me! |

Hi Elaine, You asked for some information about the internet. I can tell you that I am using Ancel Movil for a few months now. It is quite stable, but uploading large files is quite impossible. I tried it at the cyber over here in Castillos as well, but upload seems to be very slow there as well. So I used to do some design work, but due to the slow upload it is not really possible to send files back and forth with collegues. We do not have a Antel connection, that is why I am using Ancel Movil. The connection in Castillos used to be a DSL connection. Upload is horrible. So I ended up sending files via yousendit and sites like that. Sometimes frustrating but not impossible. Just take it easy. And...remember that you are 'spoilt' Ireland has one of the fastest connections! |
