Buying wholesale from Uruguay?
| Buying wholesale from Uruguay? Is it even possible to get goods shipped internationally on a small scale? I was a doing a little research and wondering how it would work. |
| Do you want to ship TO or FROM Uruguay?I find that that postal service EMS (in the USA Express Mail) works best. DHL, UPS, Fedex have more issues with customs. If you want to SHIP TO Uruguay the taxes can be very expensive on top of the shipping. SHIPPING FROM Uruguay is not difficult, but I can't address import tax issues in the USA, though small gifts I've sent to family have never had any problems. |
| Well from what I read in other posts the shipping INTO Uruguay has a major import tax attached to it. It is something in the range of 60% import tax.To me that's utterly ridiculous. I just can't imagine anyone having to pay a 60% tax on a birthday or christmas gift. What kind of insanity is that? |
| I was thinking of buying from Uruguay and getting it shipped to the US. It is amazing that the tax is that high to ship to Uruguay. I couldn't imagine paying out that much money. |
| If it is small and not too expensive I think your only worry is the cost of shipping. If it is large or expensive, read up on the U.S. Customs website about import taxes in the USA... and have some asprin handy as you'll probably get a huge headache trying to figure that out! |
| what are the fees and or the restrictions that are mentioned, concerning the importation of specific vehicle types into this country? |
| "Importing cars."
Braun, used cars importation is not permitted (except for Uruguayans coming back to the country after 2 years abroad, in which case they are tax free). I've never heard of anyone importing a new car by himself. You may beneffit from a wider range of pricing oportunities from sellers abroad, but the taxes will be exactly the same, and you will have to pay much higher costs for the freight than the local sellers that move high volumes. So I guess nobody imports his own car because that is not economically convenient. |
| "Common Obsession"
It does seem to be a common obsession among many N. Americans... my advice (if you are living or staying in Montevideo) is to forget about cars and enjoy a stress free life! |

There is a ban on importing used cars but judging by the machines I see around here, there is no such ban on diggers, tractors, combine harvesters, high-body sprayers and all manner of other self propelled machines. My neighbour has just bought a used harvester and it still bears its Suffolk (UK) number plates. The digger which cut out my driveway still had the name and phone number of Len Hutton from Boston, Lincolnshire :-) I've no idea about the profitability of importing such stuff but at least its possible. |
| "Import or Export"
I also think the original message here was about EXPORTING. |
