Living in Uruguay us a serious thing indeed, in a fun way of course. There are events to simple dazzle the average spectator and not to mention the carnival in Uruguay.

"Carnival in Uruguay"

They say that Carnival in Uruguay is the longest in the world as it lasts the whole month of February, but the truth is all the best stuff happens at the beginning of the month, and after that it is mostly just murga shows.

The best parts of Uruguayan Carnival (in my opinion) are the inaugural parade that takes place on 18 de Julio at the very beginning of February to open the festivites. After that the "desfile de las llamadas" (parade of the calls) is my favourite part. This is a procession in Barrio Sur and Palermo (always along Isla de Flores) of all the best cumparsas (groups of candombe drum players and dancers). This year (2010) this will take place on the evenings of February 4th and 5th.
