| Glass Artists in MVD I was wondering if there are glass artists in Uruguay. I've tried searching the web, but have not turned anything up. I am primarily interested in fused glass art, but enthusiastically admire all forms of glass art.We will be in MVD in late Feb and early Mar and we would like to visit some art galleries and museums. We would very much appreciate recommendations on what to see. Thank you! Sharol |

The most known glass artist in Uruguay is Águeda Dicancro. You can try and find some information on the web. |

Thank you, Alberto. I haven't been able to find anything on the web yet, but will keep searching. Do you by chance know where s/he shows their work?Sharol |

Sometimes if you put site:.uy (no spaces) at the end of your google searches it will limit the search to .uy sites. Of course some Uruguay sites are .com but many are .com.uy . Also using Spanish will help as a lot of local information isn't available in English.Expert Page: Quick Tips for Getting Settled in Uruguay |

Sorry, I haven't found her address or any specific place where to see her work. It seems most is in the hands of individuals. You can contact the Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales and ask them whether they know more about her. Check www.mnav.gub.uyAlso, when you come here you can search some of the art galleries at the Ciudad Vieja in Montevideo. They may also have her address or a catalog of her works. |
| "Wikipedia."
You can also find some information about her in the "Español" version of Wikipedia. Of course, it's in Spanish, though. |

This is probably a past issue at this point, but for anyone interest in doing glass art, we have found that there is no brightly colored glass available. All the color in the fused pieces here come from powdered color added to clear glass. Brightly colored glass has to come from the USA or Italy. For lampworking, the only borosilicate available is imported by Elvid SRL (J J Rousseau 3682 Montevideo) from Brazil and is considerably thinner than what we're used to in the USA. (Read: more difficult to work with.) I am not aware of any hot glass shops, and would assume it's because of the lack of cheap energy. |
