Can someone recommend a museum? I am really into art and would like to see some pieces from the local people.

Yes, I like to visit art museum, too. Montevideo have a couple of art museums. You can visit the Museo Torres Garcia in Montevideo. You'll find the abstract art of Joaquim Torres-Garcia, one of the country's most influential modern artists, at this museum.

Also, check out El Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales in Montevideo. The work of local artists is creatively displayed in this museum that dates back to 1911. I have heard great reviews.

I haven't had a chance to visit a museum in a while. Thanks for asking about this. These are some great recommendations. I am going to have to keep track of all the places I want to see.
