| A Taste of Tango I recently went to a little concert (very intimate, 30-40 people) in the bookstore "Puro Verso" on Sarandi (and Bacacay) in Ciudad Vieja. I like tango music but its not my favourite so I didn't go with very high expectations...I was absolutely and completely blown away by what I saw that I went back again this week!A band of young tango musicians called "La Mufa" - a piano, a double bass, a cello, a violin, a bandoneon and a almost tangible passion for music, this is one show that should not be missed. They played to a full house every Monday evening through February and the event has proved so popular they are going to continue it through March. The combination of this lovely and unique venue, great acoustics, lovely food (though the service isn't great) and incredible music, this little concert is worth of peso of the 200 entrance fee. Its advisable that you call and reserve a table to avoid disappointment because there is limited seating and as word spreads there is less and less room each week. The phone number for Puro Verso is 02-9166211. Below is a little video of La Mufa in action, but there is something very special about this venue that makes their music even more intimate, emotional and powerful, I highly recommend it! |
| "Tango Rioplatense at Movida Joven."
I grew up with tango between the walls of my House and just looking at these young Musicians, dressing not traditionally and playing so good. It took "La Mufa" away and that is not "Puro verso". Thank you Elaine and please go back it's good for the soul. |
| "What does "La Mufa" mean?"
Jorge I have been trying to find out what "la mufa" means but I haven't had any luck....then you said that their music took "la mufa" away...does it mean breath? It took your breath away? |
| "LUNFARDO/SLANG"
La Mufa as Klarita said, means bad luck, when your down on yourself and nothing seams to go right, it's always a bad day.All these words are parts of the "Lunfardo language" Puro Verso is not what a seems, if you translate to English it would be Pure Verse, now I know this place is a Book store but in Lunfardo (Puro Verso) means, somebody who talks and promise too much but in the end nothing happens, just talk and tell stories. For example a Politician or a guy who is trying to convince you, that he is more than he really is (know somebody ?) I don't know if you should get into this (lunfardo) because you are working on real Spanish but it's possible that sometimes you don't understand what their talking about, just because your lack of lunfardo (funny). Maybe it's my problem with English ? just kidding |
